August 31st 2007 was an important day for the Residents of Rochester, MN. Do you know what it was? Yes, it was the beginning of Hindu Heritage Family Camp at Caledonia.
Adventure began right from the time of driving to the camp site with all the detours. After registering their names, all the 110 participants had excellent Indian food and then prepared themselves for breaking the ice through interactive games. Every one decided to rest and get ready for the next day’s activities.
The Echoing sound of Ekata mantra by the Balagokulam kids woke up every one. After a cup of hot chai to brighten the brain and Suryanamaskar posters to brighten the body, participants joined the respective ganas (groups) for their sessions. The day marched ahead with a combination of Lectures & discussions – food for the brain and Games & exercises – food for the body. In between, breaks for lunch and tea gave time for every one to socialize more and exchange views on the mission of HSS.
Maha Khel to visit the Jyotir lingams kept the participants on toes and after enthusiastic participation, the group gathered for yet another delicious food prepared by the Sevikas. The Mango ice-cream added more flavour to the fun filled Interactive India quiz after which every one proceeded for the camp fire. Entertaining skits and songs pulled in the remaining energy paving the way for a wonderful nithirai.
Having had the glimpse of a day’s activity, every one got up and prepared themselves for the next day’s schedule. Ekatmata stotram, Yoga and Games marked the beginning while subsequent lecture sessions for elders and contest for kids kept the momentum going. Power point presentations on Raksha Bandhan and Sri Krishna Charitam by the Balagokulam kids inspired every ones heart. This was followed by delicious bhojan and wonderful feedback session. With a feeling of togetherness, every one cleaned the campsite and with no mind to start, they departed carrying the message of Krinvanto Vishwamaaryam.
