HSS Hopeful that Judgment Will Advance Hindu Temple Construction

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), USA volunteers and fitness enthusiasts from all across the nation began the fifth year of  annual Yogathon or "Surya Namaskar Yajna (SNY)" by offering 52,204 Surya Namaskars in 90 different places from 26 states.  In a nationwide wave or lehar, 1239 participants performed total 4016 sets of Surya Namaskar (13 Surya Namaskars per set) starting from the East coast and ending in the West coast between 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM local time.

(HSS) concluded its Fifth Annual “Health for Humanity Yogathon” on January 30, 2011.  During this two-week Yogathon, despite unusual wintry weather throughout the US, over 10,122 participants warmed themselves up with 988,302 repetitions of the yoga routine known as the Sun Salutation, or Surya Namaskar, in 224 cities and towns from 38 states.

Coinciding with the national Teacher Appreciation Week celebrated during the month of May, the Hindu Education Foundation held the fifth annual Teacher’s Appreciation program called ‘Guru Vandana’ throughout the USA to highlight the importance of the Teachers in shaping the future citizens of the country. 

Guru Vandana means “Reverence for the Teacher” – it is the thanksgiving from a student to a teacher, expressing his/her gratitude.
