On Saturday, March 12, 2011, HSS Volunteers participated in a vigil to express solidarity with the Sikh community in Elk Grove, California in response to the hate crime, it experienced. This attack unfortunately took a life of Surinder Singh ji and seriously wounded Shri. Gurmej Atwal ji. HSS, while offering its condolences to Sikh sisters and brothers for their loss, prayed for the shanti of the parted soul and for the speedy recovery of the injured. HSS also, urged law enforcement authorities to find the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bring them to justice.

Starting from July 16th, a new balagokulam has been started in Hartford Connecticut. Families from Hartford area were in search of such family program which will engage their kids in creative activities. When they came to know about Balagokulam. After getting the idea, they started it and no wonder, their kids started liking it. While playing fun games, that include physical, mathematical, concentration and general knowledge games and quizzes, they have started learning Hindi and Sanskrit words also.

Kids of Sudharshan shakha (Sterling, VA) collected an impressive 900 lbs(more than 350 items) of canned and packaged foods to restock the shelves at the local Loudoun County Food Bank. The project was organized to bring seva awareness and to give kids the opportunity to learn about people who don't have the same luxuries as they do. The food drive started on February 7th and ended on March 7th 2008.

April 30, 2006 was a memorable day for the children of Krishna Balagokulam.

In place of their regular Sunday morning session, the children and the family members associated with the Alpharetta Balagokulam center visited an old-age home by the name ‘Tara Plantation’, located in Cumming, GA. The visit was organized in the spirit of instilling the seeds of ‘sewa’ or service in the tender minds of the children. The air was filled with enthusiasm and excitement as more than 30 children, accompanied by their family members, gathered at the old age home.
