Hindu Civilization Exhibition hosted by the NJ State House Print E-mail
On Monday, May 22, 2006 Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh- HSS (Hindu Volunteer Organization) was invited to present their poster exhibition on Hindu Culture and the Dharmic Traditions of India. This invitation was extended by New Jersey Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula on the occasion of Asian heritage month. Hindu volunteers took this opportunity to share their rich culture and diverse traditions with the State Assembly of New Jersey.

The exhibition began with diya ujawalan (lighting of lamp) by Assemblyman Chivukula, followed by chanting of vedic hymn in Sanskrit and than arti (Hindu prayer). The subject area covered in each poster ranged from the basics of Hindu greeting Namaste, to Ayurveda (Indian medicine), Metallurgy, Physics, Cosmic Rhythm, Hindu Women, and Spirituality.

According to Rudra Upadhyay, a volunteer with HSS, "this exhibition only scratches the surface of the many contributions that Hindu Culture has made to humanity." He further added "this exhibition serves also as a vehicle for cultural exchange between Hindu Americans and the American public at large."

Currently, two volunteers of HSS, Balakrishna Sastry and Sarang Rastogi, have each taken extended leave from their office work to show case this poster exhibition throughout

The exhibition is a national project of Hindu Swayamsevek Sangh-USA, which conducts classes and camps for children and youth so that they can understand their culture and practice Hindu way of living.
